Days... and Confused (Series #1)

As a magnet to random and frenzied experiences- both intended and impromptu, it's nice (and sometimes confusing) to find oneself in varied settings. From strangers' homes, to barber shops, to film sets lit by kino flo's and 2K lights, to the middle of the sea- sometimes all in just 1 week. There's this small yet tugging voice that begs me to document these days. And so I heed.

Every once in a while I meet up with my friend, Kel, to have our usual Life Update. When our personalities combine, the weird-o-meter just goes way up and it explodes into many possibilities.

Our go-to spot is a sidewalk curb, hands both clasping on a 5-peso cup of coffee from a vendo machine. Thank god for these things, we do not have to pay for a hundred and fifty just to sit down and talk. Although I appreciate a "good cup", most of the time it's not so much the coffee as the company.

Last "session", we threw a dart at our imaginary map and it landed on the hand-painted sign of Ailynn's Beauty Salon. If you've found yourself (drunk or sober) in Cubao X, you've surely noticed the quaint parlor at the back corner. Or maybe you haven't. It's just there, minding its own business and doing a great job at it.

Various shops have come and go but this certain salon seems to hold an immunity card. With much hesitation but with overpowering curiosity, Kel gave in to my request to have her 50-peso haircut there.

Thus, this short series.

There's just something about these purposive spaces that reels us in. And always- the characters.

We met Aida and Marivic, the resident hairdressers of this salon. They're such warm and happy people. We ended up taking a lot of group selfies on their phones and adding each other on Facebook. A customer entered the picture and joined us in our Red Bull Party. This is not an advertisement despite the product placement. They were just handed to us (already open btw), so we practically didn't have a choice. At least we had a reason to toast.

This is for the great (hair) days ahead!

I want to collate these personal daily encounters- pleasant, strange, awkward, and/or amusing if not enlightening, in this small virtual space. They'll be under this not-so-wittily titled collection, Days and Confused. You get the reference. Actually I just thought about it now and I might regret it in the future, but oh well.

Kel said that if we joined the #100happydays bandwagon, ours might look entirely different.

This rather unpredictable flow of days- from mundane to lavish exposures, somehow allow me to (try and) carefully plot them on a wider picture. I can't see it yet, or maybe I never will. Maybe I shouldn't even bother to try. But there's certain a relief in learning that the world is not plainly split into black and white, good and evil, rich and poor, pro-RH Bill and Anti-RH Bill, Beyonce' and the rest of the world (or wait, I'm taking that last one back). It's rather an insult to the great cosmic dance to reduce it into spectra or into 2 completely opposite poles.

Always amusing, sometimes tiring, most of the time, just plain confusing. At least we're never bored.

May you have lovely and exciting days ahead! :)
